No, YOU'RE a retard!

I just read in a magazine that if your child is playing their new instrument for you for the first time and it's God awful (as it always is) you shouldn't automatically blow the "Yay, sweetie, that was WONDERFUL!" smoke up their ass response we parents are all programmed to give. Children need constructive criticism and need to realize that they will be judged in life. To me, that means we need to stop teaching our kids to treat everyone the same because they're not. The article said so. Kids need to realize some of them are great and some of them are just retarded.

There's a PSA on TV about trying to put the word 'retard' out of commission. It's a commercial full of young teeny-boppers acting really cool, which is always retarded in itself (yes, I really AM going to keep using this word, so if you're offended you probably oughta not read, but really why are you reading my blog, anyway?)

Anyway. The commercial tries to promote the eradication of the word from our vocabulary. It's uncool to use it and it's just wrong, right?

Wrong.

First, who is using the word and why? Well, we're all using it and we're using it to refer to really stupid dumbasses. I mean, REALLY stupid dumbasses. You can't just be a little stupid. You have to really earn this title, so if you did the work, you should get the reward.

Here's the problem. We all know the word originally referred to those who are limited physically or mentally. Fine. No one really wants to make fun of those people, right?

Ok, we don't want to, but we are willing to pay a $20 cover charge and a 2-drink minimum to let someone else do it for us. Let's face it, it's damn funny. For the sake of argument, though, let's say we're in church so we have to say we're not making fun of retarded people. But.....retarded people are NOT called retarded. It's considered politically incorrect. Mentally challenged, physically challenged, mentally handicapped, toilet paper challenged.....these are all acceptable. But you can't call a retarded person a retard.

Let's recap: We can't call retards retards. We can't call stupid people retards. Someone please tell me, how retarded is that????
